How online stores can show up in AI shopping answers
More shoppers now ask an AI assistant questions like which product suits them, instead of browsing pages of results. For an online store, the question is whether your products can be found, understood and recommended in those answers.
Start with clean, complete product data
- Unique titles and descriptions that state what the product is, who it is for and its key attributes.
- Consistent names, sizes, materials, prices and availability across the site and your feeds.
- Product, Offer and Review structured data that matches what the page shows.
- A reviewed Google Merchant Center feed with no disapproved or mismatched items.
Strengthen category pages
Category and collection pages carry much of the search demand. Give them a useful introduction, clear filters that do not create duplicate pages, and links to key products and guides.
Publish content shoppers and assistants can use
Buying guides, comparisons and answers to common pre-purchase questions give AI systems accurate material to cite. Write them for real shoppers first: state who each option suits and where it falls short.
Make sure crawlers can reach you
Check that your robots.txt, firewall and page rendering do not block the crawlers you want to read your site, and that key content does not depend on scripts that crawlers cannot run.
Measure sales, not just visits
Track orders and revenue by source. Visibility only matters if it brings customers, and some AI-driven visits may show up as direct or referral traffic, so measure carefully.
