Why does ChatGPT or Gemini describe my business wrongly?
SHORT ANSWER
AI assistants get businesses wrong when the name is similar to another one, when old content about the domain is still around, or when few trusted pages describe you. The fix is one consistent description on your site and every profile, clear facts at the top of your home page, matching structured data, and more accurate sources that mention you.
When we asked ChatGPT and Gemini "What is Seovixs?" on 19 October 2026, neither described us correctly. ChatGPT said it could not verify our exact spelling and pointed to two other businesses with similar names. Gemini called our domain an AI website builder. Both are mistakes that any new or similarly named business can run into.
Common reasons
- A similar name. Assistants match on words, so a close name can pull in another business.
- Old content. A domain's earlier page, a parked page or a template can still be what some systems remember.
- Thin evidence. If few trusted pages describe you, the assistant has little to go on and may guess.
- Inconsistent facts. Different names, descriptions or addresses across your profiles make the picture less clear.
What to fix, in order
- Write one plain description of the business and use it everywhere: your site's home page and About page, and every profile.
- Make sure your home page says who you are, what you do and where, in the first few lines of text.
- Add structured data that matches what is visible on the page, as Google advises.
- Publish pages that answer the questions buyers ask, so there is something accurate to cite.
- Get described by sources you do not control: profiles, directories, reviews and articles, with real content.
- Re-check the same questions every month and write down what changed.
What to expect
Assistants update on their own schedules, and answers vary from one run to the next. Fixing the facts makes a correct answer more likely, but nobody can guarantee what an assistant will say.
Common questions
Can I ask OpenAI or Google to correct the answer?
You can use the feedback buttons on an answer, but that is not a dependable fix. The lasting fix is making sure accurate sources describe your business clearly and consistently.
How long until the answer changes?
It depends on when each assistant next reads the sources it relies on. Re-check the same questions monthly and record what changes.
